Bringing history to your doorstep. Roath Local History Society was founded in 1978, by the late Alec Keir and a group of enthusiastic local historians. Our main unit of study was the ancient parish of Roath and the researching and recording of its history. Today, RLHS seeks to incorporate these aims in our activities.
For most soldiers on the frontlines, even today, this is very much the case, but during the two World Wars men of all ages found themselves swept into the maelstrom of conflict. Many perished in the course of duties which, in ordinary times, would contain no extra risks, but in times of war were perilous. April 1940 the Stokesley was entering the Thames estuary .
